The Danube region, stretching from Austria to Montenegro, is an extremely diverse part of Europe, connecting highly developed regions with areas facing economic challenges. The challenges the region faces are mainly the result of economic inequalities, leading to a worrying increase in depopulation and negative migration trends.
On the positive side, the region has great tourism potential due to its preserved natural and cultural heritage, picturesque mountains, the Adriatic Sea, numerous rivers and an exceptional gastronomic offer. One of the underexploited potentials is the Trans Dinarica Cycle Route (TD), a 3,364 km long route stretching from Slovenia to North Macedonia and prioritizing sustainable exploration of UNESCO sites, national parks and villages. Thanks to publications in many media, the TD has already been recognized, but unfortunately it still remains only a digital map, which does not bring additional benefits to the people or society living along the route.
The project activities enable the achievement of three main objectives:
1. Increasing the social and economic impact of the Trans Dinarica cycle route.
2. Improving the accessibility of the Trans Dinarica cycle route with the connection to the Alpe-Adria route.
3. Ensuring the long-term impact and sustainability of the project results.
