Based on the experience with the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism we developed a model of sustainability certification for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The model was set up in close cooperation with the key ministries of BiH under the auspices of the German GIZ.
In step 1, we investigated possibilities for introduction of the sustainable development model Green Scheme in BiH, whereby we analyzed sustainable tourism approaches currently applied in BiH, and identified and consulted key stakeholders.
In step 2, we drafted a sustainable tourism certification model for BiH with possible variations for each of the entities and Brčko District. An organizational structure with role divisions was set up, international standards that could be adopted by tourism stakeholders in BiH were identified, and step-by-step process of implementation of the programme was outlined.
In step 3, we tested the model with 1 destination and 1 business whom we also offered consultancy services.
In step 4, we identified and trained individuals and organizations who were eligible to eventually take over the role of auditors and sustainability advisors in BiH.
