Using the Dutch tool SASTDES for measuring the carbon footprint of tourism in destinations, we prepared carbon footprint calculations with interpretations for our clients. To ensure reliable input data for the calculations, we supplemented the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism survey with a few additional questions and advised clients on determining the sample size and quotas for surveying. All input data was reviewed and evaluated. The collected data was then entered into the model, and a final report with interpretations was prepared.
The carbon footprint calculation is based on four sets of input data:
- Tourist arrivals and overnight stays by country of origin.
- The type of transport used by tourists to arrive at the destination.
- Tourist overnight stays by type of accommodation.
- Visits to carbon-intensive tourist activities.
